Serve and Protect Credit Union have been recognised for our efforts in providing financial education to our members at this year’s Workplace Savings and Benefits (WSB) Awards. Held at Marriot Hotel Grosvenor Square in London, the credit union were awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the Financial Education Provider of the Year category.
The awards, now in their 13th year, recognise firms who provide exceptional benefits and offerings to employees, particularly those with impressive developments to these offerings in the last 12 months. Serve and Protect were awarded Highly Commended in Financial Education Provider of the Year, alongside category winner, Standard Life. Also shortlisted for the award were Hymans Robertson Personal Wealth, Royal London, Scottish Widows, and Wealth at Work.
Serve and Protect launched our Financial Resilience Programme in 2018 as a tool to bring financial education to our membership. Since 2018, we have delivered educational inputs in-person and online to tens of thousands of employees across the police, prison, probation, military, fire, and health services across Britain.
The unique challenges facing public sector roles are well documented and were supported by our 2025 Financial Resilience Report. Based on survey insights from our membership, themes emerged of regularly skipped bills due to a lack of funds, a reliance on overtime to meet financial needs, and being denied financial services. Our educational offering aims to provide support for these common issues in addition to more general topics which may not have been covered earlier in our members’ lives.
Our educational offering has quickly developed in recent years with the addition of weekly webinars, free to members and non-members alike. Covering a range of topics, from improving credit scores to the financial implications of gambling and even eco-friendly ways to save, our webinars provide even greater access to financial education for public sector employees.
In addition to providing financial education, Serve and Protect provide accessible methods for public sector employees to build healthy financial habits. This is achieved by partnering with employers to offer salary deduction, helping members to automatically save every month and build emergency savings.
Rob Lovesey, Business Development Manager at Serve and Protect Credit Union, commented: “We started a journey to help improve the financial resilience of those who Serve and Protect the nation – launching a financial resilience programme which has reached tens of thousands of employees across the Military, Blue Light and Emergency Services family.”
“Along the way we have been joined by some amazing people who have all played their part in delivering the financial education – a massive thank you to all involved.”
