West Mercia Police Officer Wins £5,000 PrizeSaver Jackpot

Imagine waking up on a Monday morning to find out you’re £5,000 better-off…

Because that is exactly how one lucky West Mercia police officer started his week! Dave won a recent £5,000 national PrizeSaver draw jackpot through his account with Serve and Protect Credit Union.

The news came, in the member’s words, as a “great Monday morning call” – the sort most people hope for but never quite expect. His win is a welcome reminder that building a savings habit, even gradually, can build a safety net and bring a little extra joy along the way.

A welcome boost through challenging times

With the cost of living continuing to place pressure on frontline workers across the UK, Dave’s PrizeSaver boost was well-timed.

Though highly rewarding, a policing career comes with many challenges. Many officers balance busy roles with the everyday social and financial commitments of family life. The £5,000 prize gave Dave the chance to reconnect with family abroad and enjoy a well-deserved break.

“It was such a shock,” he said. “You always hear of other people winning money or prizes but never think it will happen to you. A great Monday morning call.”

As well as travelling abroad, Dave shared that the money will help him simply “have an enjoyable time” with loved ones at home.

A win that sparked workplace conversations

Dave’s good news soon caught the attention of colleagues at West Mercia Police.

Money worries can have a real impact on wellbeing, focus, and confidence. Our 2026 Financial Resilience Report confirms this: 40% of the members surveyed responded that financial stress had impacted their productivity at work. The issue is especially prominent in emergency service roles, where staff are often supporting others whilst managing burdens of their own.

So, when Dave received the PrizeSaver call, it naturally sparked conversation amongst his fellow officers.

“As a result of receiving the call within the office, colleagues have asked how they sign up,” Dave noted. “It was an easy conversation to convince them.”

The sense of community is a huge part of what makes credit unions different. If one person has a positive experience, it often encourages others to take small but important steps towards better financial resilience.

How does PrizeSaver work?

PrizeSaver is a ‘save-and-win’ initiative available to any member of a participating UK credit union. It encourages healthy savings habits by making the act of saving feel rewarding, rather than like a chore.

The idea is simple: it helps make saving feel more rewarding. Instead of viewing savings as another task on the to-do list, members can build their savings whilst gaining entries into a monthly prize draw.

Here’s how it works:

  • Every £1 held in a PrizeSaver-linked account at the end of the month equals one automatic entry into the following month’s draw.
  • Members can have up to 200 entries per month.
  • The more you save, the more chances you have to win.
  • PrizeSaver members also save a minimum of £10 per month into a Regular Saver.

The event coincided with the release 2026 Financial Resilience Report, which highlights that even public sector workers with regular salaries can be excluded from mainstream banking systems and find themselves in vicious debt cycles. PrizeSaver offers a practical first step towards building a stronger savings buffer for everyday needs, future plans and unexpected costs alike.

Small changes like adding a few pounds to a savings account each month make a big difference over time. Financial resilience begins with a habit.

If you are eligible to join Serve and Protect Credit Union, PrizeSaver could help you build your savings and give you the chance to win cash prizes. Learn more here, and you, too, could have an exciting Monday morning call like Dave’s!
